This overturned semi, shown at left resulted in traffic snarling north on I-95 as the southbound lanes were closed for more than 6 hours shortly after the 9 a.m. Thursday accident near the Brevard County line as shown in this state DOT snapshot in the inset.

OAK HILL, Fla. -- Traffic has been flowing smoothly in both direction on Interstate 95, but that wasn't the case for the better part of the day when a tractor-trailer overturned on the south-bound side in Oak Hill and causing the south-bound lanes to be closed for more than 6 hours.

A new trail has open in New Smyrna Beach as part of a county-wide rails to trails program, but city officials haven't said how they are going to be able top police it with a already short-handed police department.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Walkers, runners and riders now have a new path to blaze in New Smyrna Beach with Tuesday's opening of the Pedestrian Trail.

So says a press release from the municipality.

The trail spans 2.2 miles from West Pine Avenue just north of S.R. 44 off Mission Road to Sugar Mill Drive.

It was the day of school for Ray Catheline's little princess, Olivia, who entered kindergarten at the Buns Sci-Tech Charter School in Oak Hill. Big brother, Nicholas entered second grade.

Misty Burris Catheline took one final snapshot of the kids at home in New Smyrna Beach before the drive to Oak Hill and a couple more photos with father and the children in their respective classes.

"(We're) missing our babies, but we have a little downtime now," the proud mom lamented.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Volusia County Beach Safety flew the yellow flag today for moderate rip current conditions with nearly two dozen people caught in rip currents who had to be rescued.

Besides 21 rescues, there were some other issues for breach safety personnel to contend with on this hot Saturday.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The body of a 25-year-old old out-of-state swimmer reported missing at 12:30 p.m. in the surf near the Flagler Avenue approach was recovered nearly nine hours later after apparently washing up on shore.
