John L. Turnblom

Memorial service for John Lester Turnblom, age 90, of Edgewater, who died Monday, July 26, 2010 at his home, will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 31 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center, Edgewater, with Chaplain Beverly Richardson officiating.

A reception will follow the service. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Mr. Turnblom served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and was awarded the bronze star. A welder by trade, he and his brother owned and operated Economy Welding in Worcester, he was a member and former Commander of American Legion Post 318, and a member of the VFW, both in Worcester.

At age 17, Mr. Turnblom played in the "Bob Styles and his Orchestra" group, later played electric guitar and organ in his own orchestra, and wrote a song for his wife entitled "As You Alone Can Be". He was a former golfer and a member of Terra Mar Village Old Poker Guys, Edgewater.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Catherine; daughter, Deanna G. Dunaway of Yuma, Arizona; and twin-brother, Warren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edward and Russell.
