Horace James Cathers

Horace James Cathers, age 91, of Edgewater, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Edgewater.

The family will have a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, with a wake service at 6:45 p.m at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, New Jersey.

Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Mr. Cathers, a retired concierge agent for Trans World Airlines, moved to this area in 1990. He served as Staff Sergeant in the 13th Army Air Force during WWII, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church & it's Men's Club, St. Gerhard Mission, Knights of Columbus, VFW, and American Legion, all in New Smyrna Beach, and the 13th Air Force Association.

Mr. Cathers was a member of Volusia County Citizens on Patrol, enjoyed reading, and loved to travel.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Margaret; 1 daughter, Mary Ann Charland and her husband Charles of Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania; 1 brother, Carl R. Cathers and his wife, Elaine of Stockton, New Jersey; 1 sister, June Mathews of Rosemont; 3 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Mr. Cathers was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Shelton.
