Three Sunday fires in Oak Hill and Osteen areas may be work of arsonist

OAK HILL -- Three structure fires Sunday in the area of Maytown Road my have been the work of an arsonist, officials said, with the fires breaking out within 40 minutes of each other.

The state Fire Marshal's Office may release preliminary details as early as today.

Here is a summary of each fire as reported by Kuehn to the media:

  • The first fire call came in at 11:05 a.m. of an abandoned home at 314 W. West Halifax Ave. A Volusia County firefighter was treated and released from Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach for heat exhaustion. Volusia, Brevard and Edgewater were on scene. Volusia was in charge.
  • The second fire call came in at 11:14 a.m. at 546 Maytown Road, of a home that has been unoccupied for years. Edgewater and Volusia County were on scene. Edgewater was in charge.
  • The third call came in at 11:42 a.m. for a ully involved mobile home, about 10 miles from the first two fires, at a check station for Miami Trust Hunt Club, a 52,000-acre hunt club in Osteen. This is one of four check stations where hunters bring their deer to be weighed and checked. A Volusia County firefighter at this fire was treated on the scene by EVAC for over-exertion.

"All three structures were a total loss," Volusia County spokeswoman Pat Kuehn said.
