NEW SMYRNA BEACH – The last city commission meeting of the year will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, preceded by a workshop discussion on urban strategies starting at 4 p.m. Topping the commission agenda will be a presentation by the developer of the proposed Flagler Avenue Hampton Inn project.

Developer David Swentor of HiHo LLC and the developer’s attorney, Glenn Storch, is expected to be present to give an updated timeline on the financing and construction of the hotel.

Just this week the Community Redevelopment Agency gave its approval to the developer to extend the deadline six more months in order for HiHo to get its financing in order and to get the land sales contract signed. Three second readings and public hearings will be held; two dealing with land development regulations and one amending current expenses and capital outlay required by the city during and for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2011.

Commissioners will also conduct the first reading of an ordinance, which if adopted, would rezone 135 acres, located south of Turnbull Bay Road and west of Tionia Road, from Residential Planned Unit Development and Conservation to Planned Unit Development Zoning District, as well as approving the Sugar Mills Estates Planned Unit Development Master Development Agreement and Conceptual Plan.

Also on the agenda commissioners will:

Consider entering into a contract with Waverly Media, LLC for city bus benches with the condition that the bench locations identified by the commission be incorporated as an exhibit to the contract

Consider approval of a request for proposal for real estate broker services for the sale of city commercial and residential properties.

Select one of three recommended options for the repair of the Flagler Avenue Boardwalk wooden structure.

The city commission will also convene a visioning retreat workshop 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. That workshop will be held at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, 1414 Art Center Blvd. The city commission meeting and urban strategies workshop will be held at city hall, 210 Sams Ave.
