Future of hospital in New Smyrna Beach lost on our elected officials

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- If any of you have bothered to follow what is going on over at our hospital, then you're light years ahead of our elected officials who simply have not shown any leadership what so ever on this subject.

The future of Bert Fish Medical Center and all of its jobs and the revenue generated locally from these folks, seem to be of no interest to our officials.  For the most part, they don't even attend the meetings where decisions are being made, putting all of the citizens of this city and in the district, millions of dollars in debt. That's a figure at the end of the day that may exceed $10 million.

They talk a good talk and continue to spend an endless stream of money to supposedly attract new jobs to the area, yet they won't spend two hours at a hospital meeting to save the 500-plus jobs that are already in place.

It seems that the only time they show any interest in the hospital is when they are trying to find a way to weasel more hospital taxes for their CRA buddies and interests. Watch for your millage rate and hospital tax increases both this year and well into the future.

Until the next time,
Bob Tolley
