Enough of the deficit squabbling in Washington

All the elected officials, aides, politicians, czars, lobbyists, and janitors in Washington can’t seem to come up with a solution to our so-called “debt crisis.” It isn’t that I don’t believe there "is" a debt crisis; it’s that it could be solved so easily if the above-named dolts would set aside their egos and do the right thing.

Your family couldn’t possibly operate the way the Federal government does. Let’s say mom and dad both work. Grandpa is in Heaven and Grandma is feeling poorly. One of your kids is in college and two are in high school. You’ve got two cars but one is almost ready for retirement. Would you find it acceptable if your partner suddenly wanted an expensive new car, plan a vacation to Russia and quit his job?

Certain members in Congress simply won’t stop spending.

Yes, we had an election in 2010 and we thought they got the message, but Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner has a spine like cooked spaghetti and appears ready to give in to raising the debt ceiling while allowing the Obama administration to raise taxes and continue to spend like mindless drones.

This has been the solution for years and years and cannot continue. Obama has added $4 trillion dollars to the debt in the last two years years.

Common sense and logic would force your family to readdress its priorities or face ruin. In order to succeed hard choices would need to be made: Return the car, cancel the vacation and stay at work.

The problem with Congress is there isn’t a price to pay if they don’t take strong action right now.

Obviously, facing the wrath of voters is a far distant memory. The most pressing question is “why?”

Why won’t they stop spending money we don’t have? Our grandchildren are already on the hook for $42,000-plus when they take their first breath. Our elected officials need to cap the debt ceiling, cut spending, and balance the budget just like families have to in recessionary times.

Warren Buffett has the solution, but it would take amazing willpower and a return to government of the people, by the people and for the people. He says: "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP all sitting members of congress are ineligible for reelection."
