Peter Mallory's loss is a loss for New Smyrna Beach and beyond.
When I was informed of Peter's death late Friday, I stayed up all night searching YouTube for a song to post here, but none of them seemed to fit. So I put it aside early this morning and drove to Sanford to cover the George Zimmerman bond hearing. Peter knew firsthand my passion for chasing the big story and I know he would not want me or anyone else fussing over his passing.
I tried writing a story Friday night announcing Peter's death, but I found myself searching YouTube for a comforting song that would help give definition to his storied life, including him helping me with my dream of starting up an Internet newspaper.
Tonight, it dawned on me after writing the main story on Peter's death. Because Peter enjoyed Cudas home football games, I chose the New Smyrna Beach Marching Band's rendition of Europe's "The final Countdown."
Considering the circumstances and badly needed sleep, the Zimmerman coverage doesn't need to be rushed. This video was one of Peter's favorites.
