MONTVALE, NJ -- The New Smyrna Beach High School Cudas big trip to the Big Apple had its good points and its bad points: The good is that the squad got to visit Ground Zero and the rebuilding of the World Trade Center. The bad is the Cudas lost to nationally-ranked St. Joseph's Regional of Montvale, 49-13. at Overpeck County Park in Palisades Park.

St. Joseph's is ranked No. 7 nationally among high school football teams.

St. Joseph led 35-0 at halftime, similar to what they did the week before. The end result was no different: Yet another win. St. Joseph's jumped out to an early 14-0 advantage in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Cudas got their first touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Terrill Jefferson. Marcus Johnson hit Dwayne Wood with a 44-yard TD pass for New Smyrna Beach in the fourth quarter, but the game was already well out of reach.

The Cudas play again much closer to home Friday night when they visit Seabreeze.
