MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Just to clear up a matter because a few Facebook friends seem to have gotten confused: Candidate and now President Trump isn't my guy.

In a word, I don't have a guy: I have an open and obvious ideological conviction: libertarianism.

When political personalities enact libertarian policies, I celebrate those policies. When they enact policies opposed to libertarian ideas, I'm critical of those actions. Rather simple. I gladly defended Trump against the Republican establishment because the Republican establishment is a disaster and a feral beast against individual liberty and freedom.

Republican establishment types are impossibly inept and political amateurs that are clueless policy-wise. They have backed numerous policies that have been disastrous to American life.

To be sure, I defended those policies Trump ran on that were congruent with a more non-interventionist foreign policy, less federal control on American life, etc. And I did so proudly.

To be sure, I defended those policies Trump ran on that were congruent with a more non-interventionist foreign policy, less federal control on American life, etc. And I did so proudly.

But I have also been openly opposed to Trump's protectionism, federal drug policies in the hands of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and the President's encouragement of federal control on private life in a host of other issues. In particular, Trump's Rinocare healthcare that was opposed to free-market alternatives and solutions.

With that said, those things where I disagree with President Trump were far worse with a progressive Democrat in office, particularly Hillary Clinton. And so I was nothing but pleased Hillary was destroyed in the last election.

Still, it would be more than a little sophomoric to assume that President Trump and his policies (while some have been more than a little encouraging) encapsulates my own political convictions or principals -- at all. To the extent Trump stands against central control of American life and defends people and their property (including their income), then I will defend those policies.

But whenever President Trump strays from that libertarian direction, I will be critical and openly so.
