NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Seven people were taken to Halifax Medical Center this morning after a Chevy Tahoe and a Saturn collided at the intersection of State Road 44 and South Myrtle Avenue, New Smyrna Beach police reported.
The Tahoe flipped in the 7:08 a.m. collision and the driver, 24-year-old Brandon Shackelford of New Smyrna Beach, was airlifted by Sheriff's helicopter to Halifax in Daytona Beach and admitted into the intensive care unit in stable condition. A passenger, 45-year-old Lisa Jones of Deltona, was transported by EVAC ambulance to Halifax.
Lashanda Ammons, 18, of New Smyrna Beach, the driver of the Saturn, was transported by EVAC ambulance to Halifax along with four under-aged passengers, two of whom were admitted to Halifax's pediatric intensive care unit in stable condition.
Details on the cause of the accident were sketchy, and police Sgt. Eugene Griffith said no tickets were issued, though an investigation is ongoing.
