Free H1N1 school vaccination clinic Saturday for DeLand/Deltona/Orange City students, teachers and staff

DELAND -- The Volusia County Health Department will conduct a free H1N1 swine flu vaccination clinic targeting students in DeLand, Deltona and Orange City Saturday, Nov. 14.

The school vaccination clinic will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. or until the vaccine supply has been exhausted.

Operation Pedestrian Safety Wednesday in South Daytona

SOUTH DAYTONA — The South Daytona Police Department will conduct a pedestrian safety operation on Wednesday, Nov. 11 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the intersection of South Ridgewood Avenue and Ridge Boulevard.

The primary focus of South Daytona’s operation is to raise awareness of pedestrian safety and to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities.

PBS TV star returns To Athens Stage after 50 years

DELAND -- When PBS television celebrity Charlie Carlson emcees 'A Night With Johnny Duncan' this Friday night, he will be returning to a stage where he performed as a child more than 50 years ago.

"When I was about 13 years old, I was a stooge in the audience for magician Harry Wise in his Dr Jekyll Weird Show, said Carlson, of New Smyrna Beach.

"When Harry asked for volunteers to go on stage, I was always among those picked. He would eliminate the real audience members, and I was the one chosen to remain and be hypnotized."

County of Volusia to meet with Teamsters local 385

DELAND -- Staff from the Volusia County Personnel Division will meet with representatives of the Teamsters Local 385 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday, to discuss contract negotiations for Sheriff's deputies.

The meeting will be in the fourth-floor conference room of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- Two brothers, ages 10 and 7, with severe burns on their faces, chests and arms, are hospitalized in critical condition and their mother commited under the state's Baker Act, for psychiatric evaluation, New Smyrna Beach police said of the early Monday incident at a duplex in the 400 block of 10th Street.

Ormond Beach man struck and killed Sunday night after stepping onto U.S. 1 near Iron Horse Saloon

ORMOND BEACH - A 53-year-old Ormond Beach man walking from the Iron Horse Saloon parking lot was struck and killed Sunday night after walking in front of an oncoming pick-up truck he apparently did not see as he stepped onto U.S. 1, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Bruce Bolduc was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:08 p.m. accident. The driver, William Groat, 58, of Grand Blanc, Mich., who was driving in the outside lane, was not charged.
