Flowers and other items continue to amass on the streets of Paris where blood was spilled by ISIS terrorists, which has our local comminty columnist Darlene Vann asking that Americans continue to pray for peace and not to lose site of our own vulnerability to terrorists.

EDGEWATER, Fla. -- As the world mourns the great losses in Paris, France from the cowardly and senseless attacks by ISIS, we in the United States continue to think we are safe from such incidents. Why? I just don’t know.

After 9/11 we should have learned yet not long ago a man jumped the fence at the White House and actually gained entrance to the president’s home building.

Everyone is on alert. People are reporting backpacks and other packages left unattended as we battle over gun laws and who should be president but as evidenced in France no amount of precautions can prepare us for what may come at any minute.

It is a sad and dangerous world we live in but we cannot give in to our fear either. Life must go on.

Not going to that concert or ball game is letting those nasty people win and we won’t let that happen either. I don’t have the answers.

Many of my friends who are my age or older talk often about how this world is not what we were brought up to believe our world would be like.

Many say they want to go back to Beaver Cleaver days but of course those days will never be again. And so we go on trying to adapt to this technological and most illogical of worlds. What else can we do?

We can but pray for better days while knowing they aren’t coming and prepare ourselves for more death and destruction to come.

Meanwhile, pray for those lost in France and around the world while the flowers and momentos continue to accumulate while the blood spilled on the pavement reninds us of the stain on civilization.

Pray for peace. Try to believe peace is possible in our time.
