Post-Hurricane Matthew: Volusia County gov't closed Monday, but Supervisor of Elections Office will be open for voter registration

DELAND, Fla -- Although county offices will be closed on Monday due to clean up from Hurricane Matthew; the Department of Elections will be open from 8 am to 5 pm.

Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis and her staff are reporting for work because she wants to give everyone who hasn't yet registered to vote in the Nov. 8 elections, the chance to do do so with Tuesday's deadline looming. 

"I want anyone who would like to register to vote to have the opportunity," Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis said in an email to Headlinhe Surfer and other media outlets. "The deadline to register for the November 8 General Election is October 11. Our office will be open normal hours on Monday and we will be open until 7 pm Tuesday, October 11. For further assistance, please call my cell 386-8786100. Have a great evening!"

The Office of the Supervisor of Elections is located on the first floor of the Hidstoric Volusia County Courthouse, 125 W. New York Ave., DeLand. 

As of Oct. 4, Volusia County registered voters numbered 380,683: Comprised of 135,834 Democrats, 132,041 Republicans, 100,3143 NPAs (non-party afiliation) and 12,665 as other.
