New Smyrna Beach resident Ellen Darden, who was a candidate in the 2010 primary for the County Council district 3 seat and is president-elect of the New Smyrna Beach Board of Realtors, wrote her opposition to Amendment 4 on the Nov. 2 ballot, the so-called Home Democracy initiative for voters to consider in the general election:

A “wolf in sheep’s clothing” is the metaphor that comes to mind when I consider Amendment 4. I hear this alleged growth management amendment to Florida’s Constitution, requiring a popular election every time a change is needed to every local comprehensive land use plan, described by supporters as though it is just a common sense, no down side proposal.

OAK HILL -- Three structure fires Sunday in the area of Maytown Road my have been the work of an arsonist, officials said, with the fires breaking out within 40 minutes of each other.

The state Fire Marshal's Office may release preliminary details as early as today.

VCSO UNITS RESPONDED TO THE ABOVE LOCATION WITH VCFS ON A POSSIBLE DEAD PERSON. UPON ARRIVAL DEPUTIES CONTACTED PARAMEDICS WHO ADVISED THE DECEASED PERSON WAS A 90 YOA FEMALE WITH NUMEROUS HEALTH PROBLEMS. PARAMEDICS ADVISED SHE HAD BEEN DEAD FOR SEVERAL HOURS. V-1'S 2 DAUGHTERS WERE AT THE HOME AND HAD BEEN STAYING WITH HER. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FOUL PLAY OR TRAUMA. V-1'S DOCTOR WILL SIGN THE DEATH CERTIFICATE.

Thomas Rodosky, 58, of Edgewater, shown here on the far left, and Timothy Hubbell, 18, of Daytona Beach, are each charged with multiple counts of possession of online child pornography in unrelated cases. Rodosky was arrested Thursday and Hubbell, the day before.

EDGEWATER -- Volusia County Sheriff's sex crimes investigators armed with search warrants headed Thursday to the Edgewater home of 58-year-old Thomas Rodosky where they found numerous images of children engaged in sexual activity on a computer in his house, an agency spokesman said.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Utilities Commission has introduced new electric rebates for fiscal 2011, marking the fourth consecutive year the utility has offered electric rebates.

D-1 Maloney, Michael Contact was made with Maloney at his place of residence. He was placed under arrest on an active Volusia County warrant. The warrant was issued by Judge Beck for Failure to Appear ref possession of drug paraphernalia with a $1000 bond. He was transported to VCBJ.

The Coast Guard rescued a father and son 20-miles off the coast  just before noon Wednesday after Bruce Falco, age unknown, radioed in a distress call that his 25-foot center console boat was taking on water and about to capsize, which it did in a matter of minutes. He and his son, Michael Falco, 15, of Orange City, were rescued as shown in these photos.
