PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis has demonstrated her transparency throughout the 2016 campaign season -- even appearing at an open forum during a debate series last month, in preparation for today's Sunshine State primary for city, county, state and federal races.

Bastian pointed out in a Facebook post to Headline Surfer® in response to its exclusive reporting Thursday on fellow City Councilman's Don Burnette's candidacy for mayor, that had him undecided on whether to seek re-election, that in fact, he had decided to do so several weeks ago. PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Port Orange's City Manager Jake Johansson has named Tim Burman as the city's interim community development director, replacing Wayne Clark who has accepted a position with the City of Asheville, NC, starting Nov. 23.

In announcing the change in a press release, Johansson did not provide information on the salary Clark was earning nor on how much additional pay Burman will make doing both his regular job and the new duties assigned to him. Nor was the release clear on when the new duties would begin or even what the position of community development director entails.

A woman's body found floating in the Halifax River in the vicinity of the Seven Seas Marina in Port Orange as shown in this locator map is being treated as an active homicide investigation. The woman's' ID is known to Port Orange cops, who are withholding her identity until her immediate family members are contacted.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- The body of a woman was found floating in the Halifax River early Wednesday near the Seven Seas Marina at 3300 S. Peninsula Drive, police said.

Here's a synopsis of what cops came across as described in an email to HeadlineSurfer.com from Port Orange Police Lt. Scott Brozio: "Responding officers found an unidentified female floating in the vicinity of the marina. Port Orange Detectives responded to the scene and the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted to remove the deceased."

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- The honking cars and cheers were like symphony music to the ears Maredy Hanford and nearly two dozen other parishioners from Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange at the intersection of Ridgewood and Dunlawton avenues.

They were there from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday protesting gay marriage.

Feds: Port Orange man indicted in scheme to defraud oil spill compensation fund

Robert Lee Craddock of Port Orange/Daytona Beach Shores, FL indicted by feds in BP Oil scheme / Headline Surfer®ORLANDO, Fla. – A federal grand jury has handed up an indictment charging 54-year-old Robert Lee Craddock of Port Orange with wire fraud arising out of a scheme to defraud the compensation fund established as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010.

If convicted, Craddock, who also may have a residence in Daytona Beach Shores, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. The indictment also notifies Craddock that the Office of US Attorney A Lee Bentley, III, is seeking a money judgment in the amount of $135,153, the proceeds of the charged criminal conduct.

According to the indictment, following the April 2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, which was being leased by BP, formerly known as British Petroleum, Craddock submitted a claim to BP and the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, an independent facility established by BP to compensate qualified claimants, for lost earnings purportedly related to the impact of the oil spill on his businesses.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- I believe due diligence has not been conducted regarding an increase in beach tolls. It is reported revenue will double if tolls double, but there is no guarantee this increase will occur.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Larry McKinney, former president and CEO of the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, who finished second in a crowded field in the Aug. 26 primary for a seat on the Port Orange City Council, has withdrawn his candidacy with less than three weeks to go before the general election.

"Today, I am withdrawing from the race for District 4 City Council in Port Orange," McKinney said in a prepared statement emailed to Headline Surfer® late Friday night.
