NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The commissioners and I heard loud and clear from residents at the Sept. 5 community meeting at the Brannon Center on how they feel about a workforce housing development on the North Causeway. They don't want it.

While this was not a city-initiated community meeting, I attended along with my fellow city commissioners to learn specific details about the proposed development "The Causeway Landings" and to hear what the several hundred residents had to say about the project.

DAYTONA BEACH -- By now you know the story all too well: On the 11th anniversary of the destruction of the Twin Towers, an Egyptian mob attacked the American Embassy in Cairo, scaled the wall, tore down and destroyed the American flag and replaced it with an Islamic banner containing the Arabic slogan, “Allah’s Messenger is Mohammad.”

9/11 anniversary: 'terrorists will never defeat us no matter what they do'

ORMOND BEACH -- Americans place a high value on life. We have done this whenever we’ve gone to war which sounds quite odd, doesn’t it? After all, war is death and destruction on a grand scale. Americans are optimistic people. We tend to see the glass half full and think that everyone operates at the highest and best level. On Sept. 11, 2001, our country was attacked by mad men. It shook us up and made us reassess our whole lives through the glass of insanity.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Hours after the Egyptian mob’s 9/11 anniversary assault on our embassy in Cairo, a well-armed terrorist team attacked the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, setting the building afire and killing American Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other US diplomats.

Al-Qaeda is fond of simultaneous terrorists attacks but, other than timing, there are too many differences between the two incidents to suggest to me that they are linked. In Cairo the assault was mounted by a large unarmed mob, possibly egged on by the Muslim Brotherhood or their Salafist Islamic rivals.

Israel betrayed: Democratic Party platform denies recognition of Jerusalem as capital

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Once again, at its convention last week, the new Democratic Party has shown its disdain for Israel. Along with the Republicans, the Democrats have traditionally been proud supporters of Israel, our only real friend, ally and supporter in the Middle East. But in recent years, the Dems have come to be dominated by their extreme left wing, led by the modern Marxist, Barack Obama.
