DELTONA -- Come enjoy the hauntingly good music of Jim Nelson “The Entertainer” as the city celebrates the Deltona Parks & Recreation Senior Halloween Costume Ball, 5-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21 at the Lakeshore Community Center, 980 Lakeshore Drive.

Wear your best costume as prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in a costume contest. Tickets are $2 at the door, but the sinister snacks are free. Door prizes will be awarded and photographers from the photo department at Walgreens will take pictures available for purchase at Walgreens the next day.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Ellen Darden announced today that she is running in the 2012 election for the County Council seat held by outgoing Joie Alexander, who is not seeking re-election to that post.

Darden said she spoke with the incumbent before throwing her name in the ring for the position that represents Southeast Volusia. “I have spoken to Councilwoman Alexander, and she is definitely not running again for the District 3 seat,” Darden said.

NEW SMYRNA Beach -- They waited 40 day and 40 nights in Noah's Ark. For those who live near the Turnbull Bay Bridge, the wait was 56 days and then the county reopened it.

Mark Cristopher Barringer shown in the the photo from a Volusia County Branch Jail booking mug was charged with drunken driving and DUI resulting in an accident with damage to personal property. 

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- For the second time in less than two years, Mark C. Barringer has been arrested on DUI charges that resulted in him crashing a motor vehicle, New Smyrna Beach police said.

Barringer, 25, was arrested 4:53 Monday after wrecking his car in the vicinity of 300 Flagler Ave., according to a police report by officer Joseph Hunchard. When Hunchard responded, he found the driver asleep at the wheel with his Nissan Frontier in the middle of Flagler Avenue with the engine running.
