Jerry K. Rea

Memorial service for Jerry Koller Rea, age 90, of New Smyrna Beach, who passed away after a short illness on June 21, 2010 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Edgewater, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at Coronado Community United Methodist Church, New Smyrna Beach, with The Reverend Esther Robinson, officiating.

Born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania on December 22, 1919, Mr. Rea was a 1942 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 30 years. After retiring from a post in Miami in 1972 with the rank of Captain, he made New Smyrna his permanent home. An active member of Coronado Community United Methodist Church, Mr Rea sang in the choir, as well as with a barbershop chorus, represented the Coast Guard in the Navy League, and taught computer classes at the Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 25 years, Norma; daughter Katherine Rea of California; 8 stepchildren, Charles and Linda Roberts, Kirt Roberts, Caroline and Conrad Bernhardt, Kathy and Bob Crafton, Kevin and Glenda Roberts, Charlene and Rich Allen, Cheryl Rein, Christina Powell and Chris Simcox; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
