Two killed, 1 survivor aboard Cessna plane that crashes in Georgia shortly after takeoff Friday from Edgewater; craft registered in NSB

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A single-engine plane registered in New Smyrna Beach that took off from Edgewater's small airport crashed in Georgia Friday night, killing two of three people on board, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Cessna crashed in Chatsworth, Ga., while the pilot reported he was losing power and hoping to land on a road, when the plane crashed at 11 p.m., the FAA said. Two people on board died in the crash, but a third survived though that person's condition was not made available as of Sunday night. The FAA did not release any of the names.The plane is registered at the New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport.

The plane, identified as a 172 Skyhawk, took off from Massey Ranch Airpark in Edgewater earlier that night, destined for Chattanooga, Tenn., the FAA reported.
