Sheriff's Office: Orange City woman, 42, struck and killed after stepping in front of car on poorly lit road early Saturday in DeBary

DEBARY -- A 42-year-old Orange City woman was struck and killed early Saturday after she sudenly stepped in front of a car on South Charles R. Beall Boulevard just a little south of its intersection with Dirksen Drive, a Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman said.

Sherrie Ann Morrison was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:49 p.m. moments after stepping in front of a 2000 4-door BMW 528i, witnesses told responding deputies. No charges were filed against 41-year-old Corey Manuel of DeBary, who was uninjured and alone.

Preliminary findings indicate that neither speed nor alcohol were factors, but the cause of the crash is under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, agency spokesman Brandon Haught said.

Here is a synopsis of what happened as described by Haught: "An adult female was walking northbound alongside the road in area that is poorly lit. Witnesses said that the woman suddenly stepped out in front of a car that was also travelling northbound and was struck."
