Denise Marie of Dapper Dan's,  cuts nephew Kenny's hair. Come Sunday, she and others will be cutting lots more for a good cause: The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- What do hair cuts and breast cancer have in common? Nothing, unless you want to do your share to help fight the dreaded disease.

From 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Denise Marie will convert her Dapper Dan's Haircuts and More, 633 N. Dixie Freeway, into the "Cut for the Cure: a Haircut - a- Thon."

Marie, along with four other stylists will donate 100% of the price of haircuts to the Susan Komen Breast cancer Research Foundation.

Those stylists include Roxanne Wessler, of Accents on You, Melissa Jaillet of the Barbary Shope, and Debby Griffey. Barbara Ives is driving up all the way from Fort Lauderdale to help.

"We hope the community will turn out to help us support this very worthy cause and get a great haircut or just stop buy and donate," Marie said

There are some treats in the offering for those who stop by, including Hungry Howie's Pizza and other donated refreshments. Music will be provided by Close Enough LTD., an acoustical duo. Chair massages also are available for a donation. There will be prizes, drawings and give-aways, as well as balloons for the kids.

Local resident and published author Michael Berish will be signing his book, "Bad Cop, No Donut."

And what would Breast Cancer Awareness be without the "Save The TATAS" tees, caps and other items as well as pink hair extensions, all at bargain prices.

Marie has raised thousands for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in the past and is "pleased and proud" to her shop Dapper Dan's as a means to further  her efforts.

Breast Cancer will strike one in eight women, according to the foundation. Marie knows this all too well as her mother is a 22-year survivor.

Everyone is welcome: Men, women and children, the more family and friends, the better. No appointment is necessary. For more information, please call 386-423-1152. If you wish to donate time or money instead, please call call Denise Marie directly: 386-689-8869.
