OUR ENDORSEMENT: Republican Rick Scott favored for governor with reluctance

NSBNews.net is not overwhelmingly thrilled with Democrat Alex Sink or Republican Rick Scott for the state's highest elective office, but after intense debate within our media organization,  NSBNews.net endorses Rick Scott for governor.

Edtor's Note: This endorsement for Rick Scott was published on Nov. 2, 2010. NSBNews.net was changed to HeadlineSurfer.com in 2012 with the acquisition of the Headline Surfer® registered trademark.

Scott has baggage related to his dealings with a large hospital and accusations of fraud. Alex Sink is the state's highest ranking Democrat, who criticizes Scott's lack of political experience, yet, she, too, has not dealt with policy issues and dealing with the divisiveness of Tallahassee's partisan electorate.

She may very well win this race by the slimmest of margins, but Scott would apply conservative principles in limiting government.

Here's what Peter Mallory said: "I recommend a vote for Rick Scott. He stands for all of the things that a conservative stands for. Whatever Rick may have done in his business career is insignificant compared to liberal Alex Sink who thinks that Obama is doing the right things and has us on the right track."

Here's what Henry Frederick said: Rick Scott cared enough to visit New Smyrna Beach during the primasry and his wife made a visit here on his behalf last month. That impressed me. I was an Alex Sink fan as far as a year ago, but I was not able to ever speak with her directly as her campaign was less than enamored by a small news website trying to reach out to her.

And in her visits to Volusia, she focused on Daytona Beach. So I deferred to my colleague on the endorsement, though I truly believe she's the better choice.

And I share her dread over Scott's first foray into elective politics: "I can't think of anything more frightening," she said at their Oct. 8 debate as the Orlando Sentinel so aptly pointed out in endorsing her.

NSBNEWS.net endorses Republican Rick Scott for governor in Tuesday's elections.

NSBNEWS.net is the only Volusia County-based media outlet to hand out endorsements for the general elections. The Orlando Sentinel has done so as well. Our endorsements resulted from collaboration and debate between NSB News LLC's publishers Henry Frederick, a registered Democrat, and Peter Mallory, a registered Republican, for posting on NSBnews.net and our new countywide website, VolusiaNews.net.
