OUR ENDORSEMENT: Hometown gal Suzanne Kosmas deserves second term as the Democratic candidate for Congress and the chance to build on her 'moderate' record

Video by Multimedia Editor Sera Frederick. NSBNEWS.net wholeheartedly endorses New Smyrna Beach's own Suzanne Kosmas for re-election for Congress, D-24, in Tuesday's general elections.

Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas voted against President Obama's national health-care plan, but later supported it after changes were made that made it more palatable. Let's just get that out of the way. It was a rookie mistake. But does that mean she should be booted out of office? This has become the rallying cry for cinservative Republicans smarting over Obama's election in the first place.

Kosmas done a lot of good for Central Florida in parts of all four counties in the 24th district comprising Volusia, Orange, Seminole and Brevard. She wasn't caught up in a scandal like the Abramoff situation that resulted in her defeating conservative Republican Tom Feeney of Oviedo two years ago.

Kosmas' opponent, Sandy Adams, is downright scary. Her rallying cry is that Suzanne Kosmas "voted with Nancy Pelosi 93 percent of the time. She's a Democrat. Republican Congressman John Mica, whose district represents other parts of Volusia voted just as much for President Bush's agenda. He's no Sam Nunn.

Adams eked out a primary victory in a crowded field over a far superior candidate in Karen Diebel of Winter Park. Diebel had a pronounced platform that conservative Republicans locally would have loved. What's Sandy Adams' platform other than being Marco Rubio's ideological lapdog.

Rubio is the Florida Republican party's rock star. He has a proven record of leadership in Tallahassee and he's passionate about his beliefs. Sandy Adams stands on the sidelines because she doesn't have much to say other than the programmed extreme Conservative Republican ideology.

Here's a classic example of the leadership Sandy Adams brings to the table. The aforementioned Rubio showed up at a rally at the New Smyrna Beach airport 48 minutes late. Not his fault. He was mobbed at his previous campaign bus-tour stop. This was the perfect opportunity for Adams to engage the crowd. Instead, she stood in the shade of an old airplane and most of the people there had no idea who she even was. She was deep in the heart of Kosmas country -- New Smyrna Beach -- and her silence spoke volumes.

Sandy Adams is a prtyender hoping to ride the national wave of Republicans upset over "Obamacare."

Perhaps Sandy Adams, the right-wing extremist who dismisses human evolution and would do away with the direct election of U.S. senators, may very well prevail in a district set up by Feeney long ago. She has her indoctrinated party ideology down to a science, but when it comes right down to it, she doesn't offer real solutions.

For those of us who call greater New Smyrna Beach home, with our Intracoastal Waterway, our beautiful beach, our scenic Flagler Avenue, Sandy Adams will focus her attention on her home turf, if elected. Sandy Adams claims she won't accept entitlements. Who is she kidding?

Suzanne Kosmas gives us a direct pipeline to Washington and monies coming back to us -- fighting to save what precious few jobs remain at Kennedy Space Center, providing assistance to our veterans and elderly.

My colleague, Peter Mallory is less than thrilled with Kosmas' ideology, but even he can't stand Sandy Adams. How often have you seen Sandy Adams in New Smyrna Beach? In Edgewater? In Oak Hill? In Samsula? In Bethune Beach? In Silver Sands.

Enough said.

NSBNEWS.net endorses Democrat Suzanne Kosmas for re-election Congress in Tuesday's general election.

The videos in the endorsements are direct appeals from the candidates to you from the 2010 NSB Hob Nob held Oct. 25, at the Brannon Center. As we go through each race, we will post the video of the candidate we feel best represents the needs of the public. NSBNEWS.net is the only Volusia County-based media outlet to hand out endorsements for the general elections. The Orange County-based Orlando Sentinel has done so as well. Our endorsements resulted from collaboration and debate between NSB News LLC's publishers, Henry Frederick, a registered Democrat, and Peter Mallory, a registered Republican, for posting on NSBNEWS.net and our new countywide website VolusiaNews.net.
