NSB government leaders trying to silence public with changes in their meeting procedures

Resolution 43-10: Never heard of it? Well, they are at it again. And who are they? The City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk, joined at the hip with the New Smyrna Beach City Commission, that's who.

And what are they doing? They are trying to further restrict democracy here in New Smyrna Beach and prevent you the taxpayer from speaking at City Commission meetings by, after a holiday weekend, slipping in at page 526 of the agenda for Tuesday 11/30/10, Resolution 43-10, which does just that.

It apparently is not enough for these elected ones to never answer your questions or email or to cut you off at the arbitrary 3 minute time limit on open comments. Now they want to prevent you from addressing a specific item or issue under the "Request to Appear" agenda slot.

But never fear, the City Staff will still be able to jam up the agenda with their less-than-complete information, while you, the people who pay the salaries of these folks, remain silent with a gag over your mouth, provided by the Mayor and the Four Elected Ones. Or should that be the Anointed Ones? Sounds better in a dictatorial government.

Thomas Jefferson said: "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."

Our city Commission is paving the way for this to happen here.

Between spending your tax money with abandon and eliminating your participation, it just gets worse and worse here in NSB.
