SOUTH DAYTONA - Warner Christian Academy Superintendent Mark Tress will be hoisted onto the roof of the school 2 p.m. Tuesday by a Giles Electric bucket truck) and live there for 24 hours straight to raise funds for need-based scholarships and facility improvements.

During a recent fundraising auction, Tress challenged parents and students to raise $20,000. In return, he promised to spend 24 hours on the roof. That was a challenge that Warner supporters could not resist.

Two families pledged $10,000 each and an additional $2,250 was raised, bringing the total to $22,250. The superintendent will be given a “raise” of a lifetime - this one onto the roof of the school. “

I’m excited and a little apprehensive,” Tress said. “With the weather turning colder, it will be an interesting experience, but I’m ready.”

The buzz on the campus, which is home to 650 students from nursery school through high school, has been growing steadily. The students are all talking about the “roof,” he said, "and they’re wondering how I’ll survive. While it may be an unusual way to raise funds, it’s turned out to be a wonderful way to build spirit and excitement for a good cause, he said.

Students, faculty and family members are expected to turnout to cheer his ascent to the roof on Tuesday.
