DELAND -- A 53-year-old DeLand motorist was killed Friday when she drove her brand new Nissan into the path of a cement mixer on U.S. 92 at Old Daytona Road near DeLand, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Patricia Poeth, who was trapped in her crushed car, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8 a.m. accident, the highway patrol said.

The road was under construction where she stopped before proceeding and striking the cement truck's left side with the left side of her vehicle, troopers said.

The victim was southbound on Old Daytona road and stopped at U.S. 92, before driving into the cement mixer driven by Calvin Simmons Jr., 38, of Daytona Beach, the FHP said, adding he was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
