Florida's Marco Rubio still says 'no' to presidential ticket in 2012

Editor's Note: The following was written earlier Sunday before President Obama's announcement that Osama bin Laden was killed by American forces

DAYTONA BEACH -- After telling those who attended his recent Town Hall meeting in Daytona Beach that he had no plans to make a run at the White House in 2012, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-FL, reiterated this position Sunday when he returned to Washington. As a freshman senator, he's working on the issues important to Florida and the nation and needs to concentrate on that for a while.

As much as I’d like to see a debate between Rubio and President Obama, I’d also like to see him build his cred by racking up the right votes on major issues.

Rubio has energized the Republican Party by cutting through the rhetoric of going along to get along and making nice with the entrenched RINOs. His message appeals to conservatives of all ages who cannot fathom why the Democrats won’t stop spending, are not interested in drilling for oil at home, and refuse to address our country’s mounting debt crisis.

While Rubio's visit to the Daytona Beach News-Journal Center was well received with enthusiasm and respect, the same cannot be said for the rude behavior of those who tried to spoil Congresswoman Sandy Adams' message of fiscal responsibility when she visited New Smyrna Beach City Hall later in the day Wednesday.

The Orange County Republican handily defeated incumbent New Smyrna Beach Democrat Suzanne Kosmas in the November mid-term elections for the 24th district seat in Congress, representing parts of Volusia, Orange, Brevard and Seminole counties.

Adams' opponents tried to shout her down as she attempted to discuss increases in the federal debt. It seems strange to me that people refuse to understand it is impossible to tax our way into profitability.

We are all responsible for the trade imbalance because we want cheap goods. Maybe if we’d stop buying American flags made in China, we’d put trade back in balance.

As I’ve watched politics deteriorate into partisan bickering over the last several years, I find it hilarious that those calling for civility in government are the same ones showing disrespect and outright contempt for anyone who doesn’t share their ideas.

You know who you are.
