GOP's Herman Cain the real deal

We left the Orlando Peabody Hotel Friday evening and quick-stepped over to the Rosen Center for a “Meet and Greet” with Presidential candidate Herman Cain. It was scheduled to begin at 7:30 but delayed while management set up a room twice as large to hold the excited Republicans. And still the crowd spilled over.

Photos for NSBNews.net by Sally Gillies / Hermamn Caion is a rising star in the Republican race for president and he didn't disaapoint in Orlando.

As we waited in line, someone started singing and pretty soon five or six hundred people were joining in on our national anthem, “America the Beautiful,” “God bless America” and even “Amazing Grace.” It was amazing.

Since this event happened as part of the Republican Party of Florida’s “Presidency 5” convention in Orlando, every imaginable t-shirt, button, flag or slogan was evident. I would guesstimate that easily 95% of the people were … gasp … white.

I wish Morgan Freeman had been there to have his eyes opened.

Later Cain told Neil Cavuto he “thought probably Freeman had never been to a Tea Party” to meet and visit with those he so casually vilified.

Later in the conversation, Cain told Cavuto, “They know that I bring my message from the heart and the head, and they’re responding to it. So, name calling is something that’s going to continue in this because they don’t know how to stop this movement. And this movement is making a big difference in politics, because a lot of the traditional Democrats are moving to the center or moving over to vote for conservatives. They’re taking another look at a Herman Cain.”

You’d know that is the reality because when Cain entered that packed room, the roar shook the building. People cheered his message of identifying and solving the problems that face America today. He’s justifiably proud of his up-from-the-boot-straps accomplishments and his winning battle with cancer.

Of course, the mainstream media thinks it can pick the Republican candidate for president just like they picked McCain in 2008. They have consistently pitted Perry against Romney, but Cain blew them out of the water.

Saturday afternoon, I sat with about 3,500 Republicans listening to Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. It was Cain who brought the us to our feet time and again and whose tax message brought cheers and calls for “9, 9, 9.”

His simple and elegant plan would abolish all taxes and replace them with: 9 percent national sales tax, 9 percent flat business tax and 9 percent flat personal income tax.

The Tampa Tribune thinks Republicans “may be ambivalent about the top contenders in the race,” but they must have been out in the hall whenever Cain was speaking. There was no doubt that hundreds of Perry and Romney voters chose Cain rather than the so-called front runners.

The Tampa Tribune might not think much of Herman Cain, but the Republican faithful gives him props.

Back tracking on statements made previously that whoever wins Florida will win the nomination, the Trib continued, “Three times the winner of the state party's straw poll has gone on to win the nomination. Cain will likely break that streak, but Florida demonstrated once again what an unpredictable and important political battleground it is. Cain may still be a long shot for the nomination, but the straw poll inflicted major damage to Perry, who campaigned harder than anyone.”

Yes, they are still trying to convince the world that Cain is an aberration, but the interesting part is that voters who have seen and heard Cain are embracing his message and the mainstream media is no longer relevant. And guess what else? White voters could care less what color he is. Cain’s values and accomplishments are the antithesis of Obama’s and we love him for it.
