Celebrating Veterans Day on 11/11/11

PORT ORANGE -- Today is 11/11/11 - Veterans Day. On this day, we honor those men and women who have defended this nation since its founding and who defend it still.

We owe so many of our freedoms to these brave and dedicated individuals. Though our busy lives may sometimes cause us to take these blessings for granted, we must never forget our nation's veterans, those devoted warriors who have always guarded the freedom and liberty that we hold so dear.

On a personal level, this day always reminds me of my late father, an Army man who fought for our country in North Africa, Italy, and France during World War II. Though he was badly wounded in combat, his devotion to his country never faltered.

On a personal level, this day always reminds me of my late father, an Army man who fought for our country in North Africa, Italy, and France during World War II. Though he was badly wounded in combat, his devotion to his country never faltered.

After returning home, he had a flagpole installed in his front yard, so that each morning he could raise the flag at dawn. So please join me in thanking a veteran or service member today.
