If cloning sheep wasn't enough, try hamburger -- gross

Alright, it’s official now as far as I am concerned. The world has gone nuts. I read where someone is now starting to clone hamburger.

You heard that right, hamburger. Now why anyone thinks we need this is beyond me but also the thought of actually eating this so called meat from someone’s laboratory makes me "want to hurl" as the kids say.

The article I read said they were going to make sinew, muscle and tissue to mimic the ingredients in regular hamburger, which is stuff we mostly don’t want to identify as it is. Hamburger is like hot dogs and mincemeat, you just want to eat that stuff -- not read the ingredient lists which would put you off for weeks.

Just because we can do something doesn’t mean we should. Science is great and I’m proud of many of its achievements, but this is plain ridiculous.

I wasn’t too happy about cloning sheep but in the long run some things scientists learned from the process gave them much needed help with cures for disease and how to get stem cells that are not from umbilical cords which is enabling them to actually grow body parts in a lab.

Need a kidney? One day you will have one cloned from your stem cells to replace your dying one without any rejection medicines for life like you get now with donor organs. What a coup that would be, and in some cases, already is for things like fingers and ears. I saw on television a lab that was growing these body parts and was amazed. They are not yet advanced enough to actually be more than research, but one day in the not too distant future they will be a boon to all mankind.

What advances can come from cloned hamburger escapes me, but that doesn’t mean they will stop the experiments leading to this atrocious thing.

What do you think? Should this be done or should these noted scientists be working on more important projects toward bettering humanity?
