EDGEWATER -- The massacre in Aurora, Colo., with the gunman who killed 12 and wounded dozens of others during the midnight showing of a new Batman movie is tragic and senseless. But it's the person with a cold heart -- not the gun -- that pulls the trigger.
That person is lacking love, is lacking the morals of doing unto others as you would have done unto you. Love thy neighbor. Thou shall not kill. Have we heard these words before? we sure have. This brings me to the Ten Commandments.
Seven years ago, then-Alabama Chief Judge Roy Moore was forced to remove the monument showing the 10 commandments. Moore said of the appeals courts action prompted by an ACLU suit:
"American the beautiful, or so you used to be, land of the Pilgrim's pride, I'm glad they'll never see. Babies piled in dumpsters, Abortion on demand. Oh, sweet land of liberty, your house is on the sand. From sea to shining sea, our nation turns away, from the teaching of god's love and a need to always pray. We've voted in a government that's rotting at the core, appointing Godless Judges who throw reason out the door. You think that God's not angry, that our land's a moral slum. How much longer will he wait before judgment comes? If we who are his children will humbly turn away and pray, seek his holy face and mend our evil ways."
It's time to change courses. It's time to educate our children. The 10 Commandments say it all. They are meant for all mankind. It doesn't matter what god you believe in Be it Muslim, Christian, even atheist.
Here are the 10 Commandments. Abide by them: 1.Thou Shalt Have No Gods Before Me. 2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. 3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. 4. Remember to Keep Holy the Sabbath. 5. Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother. 6. Thou Shalt Not Kill. 7. Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery. 8. Thou Shalt Not Steal. 9. Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness. 10. Thou Shalt Not Covet.
So I say let's put prayer back in schools, even if it's in silence. Display the 10 Commandments. Teach to love one another no matter what color of skin, no matter what race, or origin. We have but one life. Why not live in peace? Enjoy life because it is to short.
