NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- County Judge Bryan Feigenbaum came prepared to talk about his experience on the bench and why he hopes the voters in the 2012 elections will allow him to continue serving. What was to be a debate at the Brannon Center became a series of talking points because his opponent, Michael McDermott, did not atend.

Still, Feigenbaum was able to explain why he's running and what motivated and prepared him for a career on the bench. With him as in all of his previous campaign forums, was his wife, Wendy, whom he publicly thanked for her support.

McDermott is not to be confused with the retired judge of the same name who had strong name recognition. The winner of the county judge group 8 race will be decided in the Aug. 14 primary, with early voting to begin Aug. 4.

The county judge 8 race was among eight held in an eight-hour marathon session on July 21, sponsored by the 24/7 Internet newspaper at the Brannon Center. The other seven were for New Smyrna Beach City Commission zone 4, county council dist. 3, office of county council chair, supervisor of elections, county judge group 4, clerk of the circuit court and state attorney.
