Primary elections: The more things change; the more they stay the same

EDGEWATER -- Looking at the results of the recent primary election just confirmed what I had originally thought. The population keeps moaning about how things aren’t right, then they vote the same people into one office or another and expect change.

I know the populace is not that dumb.

Are they just not thinking? If someone doesn’t do well in one city what makes people think that will change in another city or job? If someone does a good job they should be voted back in once maybe twice at the most then they need to move on and let new blood take over. We need term limits on all politicians. Those jobs should not be for a lifetime including Supreme Court judges.

The president isn’t allowed more than two terms. Why should the rest of them deserve more terms. My opinion is that they need to be changed often and just maybe we can get some things fixed since the “good ole boys” can’t run the joint like they have been doing forever. If the people are not smart enough to not vote these guys in again and again then let’s regulate that so they have to make a change.

Part of this problem is the ones who have been in office for ages have a stronger monetary base so they get elected easier. I also think we should limit the amount of money allowed to the same amount for each candidate and not these millions that are spent now. If you are a millionaire and want to be president, then you and your opponent should be on a level financial playing field. There is no need for millions to be spent on a campaign when so much needs to be done in this country and that money could go to much better uses.

It seems odd to me that the presidential candidates can get people to pledge millions to their campaigns, but can’t get those same people to part with a dime extra in taxes for the good of the people. So much is wrong with the whole system. I don’t know if we can ever fix all that is wrong.

Don’t forget now. This is just my opinion. I write about things I muse about, hence the name of my blog, "Musings." You can agree or disagree, but if you don’t like what I say it is not this Internet newspaper's fault, it is all mine.
