New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer and wife Shannon Sumner-BarringerNEW SMYRNA BEACH -- They aren't in the same league as William and Kate when it comes to royalty. Then again, they don't have to deal with global attention to Kate's topless beach photos.

Adam Barringer and his wife, Shannon Sumner-Barringer, are as royal as it gets around here.

After all, Barringer is the face of New Smyrna Beach as mayor, newly re-elected without opposition.

He's also one of the seaside city's prominent business owners with his SoNapa restaurant on the beachside and a second in Maitland.

His family owns Barringer Construction and he's a member of the prestigious Anglers Club. His wife, a nurse, often accompanies him at local social functions.

The Barringers lead a rather ordinary life together compared to the far-more famous couple.

A photographer snapped photos of a topless Kate while the duchess of Cambridge was sunbathing with William at a private French villa earlier this month. The French magazine, Closer, published the photos and now there's a lawsuit brought by the royal couple to stop the photos from appearing elsewhere.

The Barringers simply got married on the hard sands of New Smyrna Beach a year ago in front of family, friends and strangers alike. The closest Barringer and his lovely bride got in terms of exposure were the videos NSBNews.net shot a year ago and posted online.

Barringer said he doesn't have time to jet set with his wife of a year nor do they have the riches of royalty, other than an occasional ride in their boat and a lunch-basket picnic on Disappearing Island in the Intracoastal Waterway in New Smyrna Beach.

The 45-year-old mayor said he's still adjusting to married life, juggling two restaurants and his municipal responsibilities.

Looking back over the past year since they said their "I dos" on the beach, Barringer said, "It's a lot of work, but Shannon is good about everything. We're both so busy, but we make time for each other."
