OAK HILL -- It is Fall so let's check in on fishing here in Oak Hill. It appears that most of the brown water caused by algae has improved, and people are once again catching and eating fish from Mosquito Lagoon.

The brown algae discolored the water from New Smyrna Beach past Haulover Canal and experts are now looking into the cause. Some say it's contamination from storm water runoff while others say all the rain has turned the water less salty.

Locals here, however, say it happens to a degree every summer and things will get back to normal when the weather and water cool.

Oak Hill is very dependent on fishing and shrimping. The snowbirds who come here every winter to enjoy our climate and red/trout fishing and sport shrimping. I just wanted everyone to know that things have improved and you can plan your fall vacation or winter hide-away somewhere near the Indian River or the Mosquito Lagoon.

Snook season is open now and trout fishing is closed November and December. Sport shrimping is really good from November to February, and the Oak Hill shrimp are the sweetest anywhere. Enjoy our natural beauty here on the riverand lagoon.
