Reflecting on election season: Doing right thing for people we represent

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Most of the political signs have been removed from the roadsides, the mailboxes are no longer filled with political campaign mailers and the dust from the campaign trails have settled.

It is now time for our newly elected officials to fulfill their campaign promises, and to that, I wish them all the success.

Since this election season has ended, I reflected back on all the meetings, seminars, interactions and relationships that I have made with political leaders on all levels. It is my contention that we all have one thing in common: service to our communities, to our country and the belief that we are doing the "right thing" for the people we represent.

It is my contention that we all have one thing in common: service to our communities, to our country and the belief that we are doing the "right thing" for the people we represent.

However, it is the varying ideologies that guide our decisions in carrying out our duties that differentiate us.

Moving into the new year, our service and political decisions should no longer be measured on a horizontal scale moving left or right. Instead, the focus should be on a vertical scale of good, better, best, and making the difficult decisions to avoid the opposite end of the scale.

I further believe it is imperative for the current group of elected officials (this generation) to make the difficult decisions, inevitably leading to sacrifices, in order to restore greatness to our country for generations to come.
