Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach to hold children's workshops beginning Jan. 23

Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach / Headline SurferNEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach is pleased to announce another season of WonderLand Children's Theatre, its youth theatre program. Held on six Wednesday afternoons, starting on Jan. 23, its mission is to encourage youngsters to participate in and learn about the performing arts.

Taught by highly skilled and experienced teachers, WonderLand provides an opportunity to perform while learning about other areas of theatre, such as set design, prop creation and costumes. These six week drama classes are designed to develop the love of theatre while encouraging literacy and oral tradition. Limited financial need scholarships are available. Tuition for each of our winter 2013 classes is $70.

Out of this World / Headline SurferOn Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m., ages 5 to 9,  the theatre workshop will center on creative ideas from "out of this world."

Students will explore stories, theatre games and activities that will take them on rides in a space ship or visiting other planets and stars.

There will be an open showcase during the last session for parents and friends will have everyone "out of this world!"

Behind the Scenes / Headline SurferOn Wednesday's from 5:15-6:15 p.m., ages 10-14, "Behind the Scenes" will answer questions about what lies behind any action on the stage. The answer is motivation and objectives.

In this workshop, the students will learn how to reason behind character choices.

During the showcase for family and friends, the students will show skits, scenes and a play, "What's the Motivation."

Students must enroll prior to attending class, as there are no walk-ins and class sizes are limited. Please enroll at the Little Theatre box office, 726 Third Ave. in New Smyrna Beach.
