NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- This is a very busy, but exciting time for us between Christmas and New Year's, especially this year with expanded countdowns: Top 100 Volusia County stories, and Top 10 countdowns for Florida, the USA and the world. That's 130 story summaries in all, but well worth the effort as they attract even more visitors and give us a chance to showcase our original local stories, videos and photos.
We're halfway through the Florida Top 10 and hope to complete that by the end of the day, unless it's precluded by major breaking news as there's always something popping up. We've got a long way to go in our Top 100 Volusia countdown, with only three entries completed so far. We're hoping to unveil the No. 1 story on New Year's Eve at the stroke of midnight, which means we'll have to crank out between 20 to 25 entries a day in the interim.
On New Year's Day, we'll begin the countdown for the Top 10 USA stories, followed by the Top 10 World Stories, hoping to complete both by Jan. 3. By Jan. 7, we hope to announce our selections for Business of the Year, Newsmaker of the Year and Citizen of the Year.
During the month of January, we'll have two investigative series -- one from New Smyrna Beach and the other from Daytona Beach. We hope that you enjoy the holidays and can spend some time with us looking at the biggest stories of the year that impacted our lives, one way or another.
And we're gearing up for our fifth anniversary in April of providing our brand of award-winning news around the clock.
