Struggling to fix database

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Because of the continuing increases in online visitors, this Internet newspaper's database is struggling to keep up with the intensity of the continued access around the clock. We are in great need of revenue to make the necessary adjustments to keep up with this demand as this operation is on a very tight shoestring budget.

We just don't have the political and marketing connections of the established print media to keep up with the latest band with requirements. We launched this site nearly five years ago -- April 7, 2008 to be exact -- to provide an alternative media outlet for news enthusiasts throughout greater New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach (Volusia County and beyond). We've proven ourselves on an editorial level with five Florida Press Club Awards in the last two years -- a record four of them in 2012, the most for any Florida journalist.

But principally as a one-person operation, doing it all -- writing, editing, marketing, uploading and soliciting advertising is a great undertaking.

We are hoping that the private sector, as well as municipal and county government entities, will see our news value and contributions to the greater good of where we live and work and provide us a fair share of revenue that print media has had as a monopoly for far too long. We are doing everything we can to make adjustments.
