NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- I have been trying to improve communication between the Southeast Volusia Advertising Authority and stakeholders in our area and wish to include the media in my efforts. I have been sending out periodic updates, typically just prior to or immediately following, our regularly scheduled board meetings.

In these emailed letters, I have been providing summaries of critical issues, including, when appropriate, creative pieces; budgets; copies of agreements; etc.

Our stakeholders certainly seem to have been appreciative and after fielding a couple of calls from local media representatives last week on various issues, it occurred to me that I should probably be including all of you in my efforts.

As a writer at heart, I am a big fan of journalism, including citizen journalism in both new and traditional media. I also understand the time and energy that research, writing and reporting require.

Most importantly, I am a staunch advocate of (wide) open transparency, most especially in government. As such, I am happy to include all of you in my database and provide you with these same updates, every time I send them out (once or twice a month).

I am also happy to send you electronic versions of our Board Books, should you prefer/desire them. The Board Books typically include minutes from our previous meeting, as well as a set of notes/attachments, like those included here. If you would like copies of the Board Books, also just let me know and I will ask Sherry Hendershot to make sure that you receive them when they go out.

Of course, I am also always available to elaborate or provide comment (though you'll likely find my communications, detailed).

Sincerely,
Tim Hamby
