Daytona Beach man shot to death near Oak Tree Circle residence

Third gun-related homicide in the city since November

DAYTONA BEACH -- A 28-year-old man was shot to death Sunday around the corner from his Oak Tree Circle home while apparently on his bicycle, Daytona Beach police said in a press release with scant few details.

The victim, identified as Joseh A. Rufffing, was found crumbled in the roadway on Forest Glen Boulevard. He was shot once in the stomach with the bullet exiting his back, police said.

"It appears he was shot while either riding his bicycle and either fell or jumped off his bicycle and tried to flee on foot as he was found about 30 feet away from the bicycle," the press release stated.

The incident occurred at 5:37 a.m., police said, initially saying the victim's wounds were not life threatening, but at 4:30 p.m. was pronounced dead at Halifax Health Medical Center.

Two men were shot to death in unrelated homicides in November. No arrests have been made.
