DAYTONA BEACH -- I will say the rock star of the evening at the Lincoln Day Dinner on May 10 at the Daytona Beach Resort and Convention Center was none other than the the primary speaker, Congressman Ron DeSantis.

What resonated with the crowd was how he lived up to his campaign and how he declined the Congressional pension plan and health care.

DeSantis is following his principles with his introduction of the 28th Amendment that basically says that Congress will not pass any law that they are not beholden to. We need more of this energized younger generation of Republicans to help to spread the message of Republican values across America.

Congressman DeSantis reminded us that after Watergate some said that maybe we should change the name of the Republican Party, that it would never recover, but then came Ronald Reagan.

The Volusia County Republican Executive Committee was fortunate to have great speakers at its May 10 Lincoln Day Dinner like DeSantis.

Headliner Surfer's own Chief Political Blogger Embassador Stanley Escudero served as the the Lincoln Day Chair with County Council ChairJason Davis serving as Master of Ceremonies. Gov. Rick Scott gave the crowd an informative comparison of where the state was before taking office and where we are today.

As Scott pointed out, Florida went from a deficit to a surplus. We are now below the the national average in unemployment and we are No. 2 two in the country as the best state to do business closing in on Texas as we continuue trying to knock them out of the front spot in a friendly competition.

And the governor reminded us so elequently why we cannot let someone like Charlie Crist back in the governorship.

Fred Costello, the former Ormond Beach mayor who gave up seeking re-election to his statehouse seat to run against DeSantis in the primary, did a stellar job introducing Congressman DeSantis to the 400-plus attendees.

Costello's intro was a humorous top 10 list about DeSantis. It shows that even running against each other at the end of the day that we are all on the same side and serve the same principles.
