Benghazi matters as much as Boston

DEBARY -- I will start by saying I am not an expert on foreign affairs like former Ambassador (and fellow Headliner Surfer blogger) Stan Escudero. He knows practically everything like one of those professors you had in college who is like a walking encyclopedia.

I am writing as an everyday person. When I was watching some of the hearings I saw our local Congressman Ron DeSantis questioning a witness and at the Volusia Lincoln Day Dinner he reminded us that this is not Republicans going after the Democrats because as he said " there is no statute of limitations on the truth."

For those who are paying attention to this situation there is a strong impression of a cover up.

Unfortunately, more information will be needed to truly see if this went all the way up to Obama to protect his reelection bid or if it stopped with Hilary Clinton. She wants to distant herself as far away from this possible to protect her possible 2016 presidential bid. Good luck ever getting President Obama.

The problem is that this was a terrorist attack and there are people who want to find out why Americans died. Could this have been avoided? The thing is that there was very little media coverage and on some networks none at all.

Most media has a liberal slant and want to protect the Democratic machine. Most of the networks have been more absorbed in the the tabloid feeding frenzy of the Jody Arias trial verdict and the death penalty debate. The other has been the Cleveland abduction story.

The Arias verdict was not a shocker. The Cleveland story is important because it gives hope to all parents of missing children, but not to cover or simply give inadequate coverage to Benghazi is shameful.

What surprised me is when I was listening to a music station as a DJ actually commented that this was the biggest coverup since Watergate and nobody knows about it? Americans died at the hands of terrorists and in the light of the Boston bombings we all must be ever vigilant of the threat to America whether it is on American soil or not.

In Benghazi, there were really two attacks, one on the Consulate and later one on the Annex.

Some of the information had that there was a rescue team in Europe that was not deployed but if they had been they could have been there in time to save at least two of the Americans killed.

We all know that security was inadequate already before the attack. Mark Thompson testified that the rapid deployment needed to happen but the option was turned down. Whistleblower Gregory Hicks, former chief of mission, testified about how Ambassador Susan Rice went on the Sunday morning talk shows saying it is all because of the Mohammad video.

Hicks also discussed how Hillary Clinton did not ask about the cause of the attack when she called him. This consulate was left unprotected and instead of finding out the truth, it was more important to find a scapegoat, which the Mohammad video offered.

Cheryl Mills, Hillary Clinton's top counsel and chief of staff, told Hicks that a lawyer had to be present during all interaction with Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz, who was sent to investigate Benghazi. He was instructed not to talk to the people investigating the attack. Only once was the lawyer not present when this person did not have clearance to be at a particular meeting and then Cheryl Mills called interrogating Hicks about what happened at the meeting.

Americans died but that does seem to matter. The only thing that matters in most of the media is to protect Obama and Hillary. The best way to do that is by making this a non-story.

This matters to the families of the dead. They are never going to have their happy ending like in Cleveland. They buried their loved ones and want the truth.

Fast Facts: Benghazi Terrorist Attack

Snapshot of Benghazi / Headline SurferThe American diplomatic mission at Benghazi, in Libya, was attacked on Sept. 11, 2012, by a heavily armed group. The attack began during the night at a compound that is meant to protect the main diplomatic building.
A second assault in the early morning the next day targeted a nearby CIA annex in a different compound. Four people were killed, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. Ten others were injured.
The attack was strongly condemned by the governments of Libya, the United States, and many other countries throughout the world. Many Libyans praised the late ambassador and staged public demonstrations against the militias that had formed during the civil war to oppose leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi.
The Libyan government also began attempts to disband many of the groups. The U.S. increased security worldwide at various diplomatic and military facilities and began investigating the attack.
Initially, there was speculation that the attacks were a spontaneous response to a video, "Innocence of Muslims," but a U.S. State Department investigation found that it was a premeditated attack by Islamist militants. The Obama administration was accused of over-emphasizing the role of the video and took issue with the investigation and the response of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
