
Patriotic lighting of night skies concludes SVAA's New Smyrna beachweeks

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Fifteen minutes after the City of Edgewater lights up the night sky on the Fourth of July with a spectacular fireworks show, the city of New Smyrna Beach will do the same.
The fireworks shows in both cities will conclude the Souhtheast Volusia Advertising Authority's inaugual New Smyrna beachweeks.
Edgewater's fireworks will begin promptly at 9 p.m. from the middle of the river fronting George R. Kennedy Park and across the street from the Edgewater City Hall on Riverside Drive.
Then at 9:15 p.m., Edgewater will do the same from Riverside Park.
Edgewater's fireworks in detail:
7 a.m. 5K Walk/Run City Hall 5 p.m. Live music, vendors Menard-May Park Dusk Fireworks display George R. Kennedy ParkThe City and the Edgewater Professional Firefighters have teamed up to create a fun filled day for the community and visitors. The day will begin with a 5K walk/run along South Riverside Drive. All proceeds from the 5K will be donated to the Wounded Warrior project.
Runners/walkers can register online at www.altavistasports.com or at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the event. The course will take participants along scenic Riverside Drive. Food and drinks will be available for sale at the start/finish line.
There will be food and other various vendors at Menard-May Park and George R. Kennedy Park beginning at 5 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided beginning at 6:45 p.m. by the Smyrna Brass Quintet.
The day will culminate with a spectacular fireworks show by Zambelli Fireworks. The show will last about 30 minutes with 1,000 fireworks launched into the sky over Edgewater and is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.
There are still spots available for vendors for the event. There is no fee for vendors. Food, beverage and entertainment vendors are welcome. Each vendor will be responsible to provide their own power, if needed.
Vendors are encouraged, if possible, to have an activity or game for children. Members of the Edgewater Professional Firefighters will be raffling off a new Perception Sport 9½-foot kayak with a paddle and personal floatation device leading up to 4th of July and at the event as well. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.
All proceeds from the drawing will be going towards the cost of the fireworks. The drawing will be on the 4th of July just prior to the fireworks show and the winner does not need to be present.

9a.m.-9:30 p.m. free family fishing tournament 3-9 p.m. Food trucks 4:30-9:30 p.m. Free concerts in the gazebo with Brickyard Road and the Crescent City Eagles Dixieland Jazz Band. 9:15 p.m. fireworks beginAttendees at the riverfront venue will be able to get an eye-full of lights in the sky since the New Smyrna Beach show immediately will follow the City of Edgewater’s display at 9 p.m.
“You will be able to see the Edgewater show a mile or so to the south and then turn and see the New Smyrna Beach fireworks right in front of you,” said Liz Yancey, New Smyrna Beach recreation and events director.
The New Smyrna Beach July 4 Celebration runs from 9 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. The day begins with a free family fishing tournament until 2 p.m. near the Brannon Center. Check in is at 8:30 a.m. The tourney includes a hot dog cookout and awards. Additional July 4 activities in Riverside Park include:
