One-night performance of 'She Won’t Tell' at Daytona's Bethune-Cookman University Performing Arts Center

March 21 musical play takes revealing look at taboo family sex abuse

DAYTONA BEACH -- A revealing look at the taboo of family sexual abuse and molestation is highlighted in “She Won’t Tell,” a revealing musical play, written by evangelist Karen Peoples, who herself was the victim of this silent nightmare that plagues so many families.

The play will be held 7 p.m. Friday, March 21, at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center.

Peoples wrote, produced and directs this riveting story set to music, which chronicles her own real-life story of how all too often sexual abuse goes on in families completely unnoticed by those who see the victim every day.

When presented to officials at Bethune-Cookman University, the stage play immediately was embraced as a tool to help students, and the community with practical ways to remove the fear of those who feel trapped by what is happening to them.

Not only will the play highlight this tragic condition, but after the on-stage performance counselors will be on hand to provide help to those who may in the past, or who our currently experiencing sexual abuse.

There are several organizations that have joined with Peoples to sponsor "She Won’t Tell," including Bethune-Cookman, Greater Friendship Baptist Church, the National Council of Negro Women, Sister to Sister, Alpha Nu Omega Inc, and others.
