Transparency lacking in corrupt Volusia County gov't with complicit print media fed taxpayer advertising bucks

DAYTONA BEACH -- Ever notice how everything in traditional print media is portrayed as bigger and better than before? How government leaders tout transparency yet don't return calls when it comes to answering questions about campaign contribution sources?

Over the next several days and weeks, it should become abundantly apparent how corrupt governance is at the county level and even among some municipal governments.

The mentality among some government officials and politicians is as long as they can maintain the status quo through traditional print media -- that would be the Daytona Beach News-Journal -- whatever new media -- that would be us in Headline Surfer® -- publishes, can be dismissed.

But for how long? To what extent? Headline Surfer® is going to start laying the ground work and then it will be up to the power brokers to decide how they want to handle things.

Can they continue to pretend that nothing is wrong?

That includes the likes of County Manager Jim Dinneen and County Attorney Dan Eckert, the voting block of County Council members Doug Daniels, Deb Deny, Pat Northey and Pat Patterson; ICI Homes owner Mori Hosseini, News-Journal Publisher Bill Offill and Editor Pat Rice and the newspaper's parent company, Halifax Media and its CEO, Michael Redding.

There are others, too, like New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer and Daytona Beach City Commissioner Carl Lentz.

With 21st century technology it's not the presses that drive the news, it's the internet. And we are in a position now more than ever before to put it out there for all to see in the sunshine where it belongs. No matter how much taxpayer advertising continues flowing the News-Journal's way, it's not going to stop the truth from coming out.
