The body of Ronald Lantery, 51, was found in a morning refuse haul at the Tomoka Landfill on Wednesday morning. How it got there and how Lantery was killed is under investigation. Lantery is shown below in the larger of three jail mugs from St. Johns County on Oct. 14, 2014, where was booked on a shoplifting charge. In the second jail mug, shown in the inset, Lantery was taken into custody on June 18, 2014, and charged with disorderly intoxication in public in Brevard County. And Lantery is shown  in the second inset from an Aug. 1, 2012, arrest in Key West where he was booked on a charge of disorderly intoxication in public.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the discovery at 10:33 a.m. and deployed its Major Case Unit to the scene to investigate. The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Ronald Lantery of Key West.

Lantery, whose last known legal address was 2200 Patterson Ave., Key West, Fla., was arrested and booked into the St. Johns County Jail in St. Augustine by St. Augfutine cops on Oct. 10, 2014, on a shoplifting charge as a first offense. His bail was only $500.

"The body was found inside a building operated by GEL Recycling Inc.," Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson told Headline Surfer®. "Investigators who visually inspected the body at the scene observed no outward signs of trauma or foul play. "

Law enforcers from The Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the Daytona Beach Police Department are investigating the discovery of a man's body brought into the Tomoka Landfill early Wednesday. The body has been identified as that of 51-year-old Ronald Lantery of Key West, Florida.
 

Regardless, the case is being treated as an unexplained homicide.

The body was transported to the morgue by the Office of the Volusia Ciounty Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be conducted in hopes of determining the manner and cause of death.

The criminal investigation is being jointly handled by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and the Daytona Beach Police Department.
