DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Willie J. Kimmons, an academian and civic giant in Daytona Beach's African-American community and a candidate for countywide office in the November elections was investigated on allegations by a woman that he "brutally raped" back in February, but because she didn't report her claim for several days and Kimmons represented by legal counsel would not answer questions by cops investigating it, the State Attorney's Office "no info'd" the case in June.

Kimmons, 72, did not return repeated telephone voice mail messages left for him by Headline Surfer. He's seeking the the district 2 seat on Volusia County Council against Daytona Beach Shores Councilwoman Billie Wheeler in the Nov. 8 general elections.

Asked about the rape allegations, Wheeler said she had only recently learned of the allegations and wanted to take some time to process information on it before making any comments.
