NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- An overnight fight between two cousins outside a bar resulted in both of them being cut with a knife and one of them getting arrested earlier today, New Smyrna Beach police said.
Giles Lamar Hankins, of New Smyrna Beach, refused medical treatment for facial curs after a 12:37 a.m.Sunday fight outside Mr. C's Bar & Grill, 225 Dimmick St., police said. Police had received a call prior to arriving on scene "that a knife was involved and someone had been stabbed," according to a report filed by Sgt. Valerie Joyce.
Hankins, no age given, refused assistance from officers and (NSB Fire Department) rescue units, then became disorderly during the investigation," Joyce wrote in her report. "He was arrested for disorderly conduct. Bystanders told officers they didn’t see with whom Mr. Hankins was fighting with and a knife could not be located."
But police later received a call from Bert Fish Medical Center alerting them that a man was in the emergency room being treated for a knife wound to his head.
Officers responded to the hospital and their investigation revealed that Hankins had struck the victim on the head with a knife handle, causing a laceration that required four staples, Joyce said in her report.
"As the investigation continued, witnesses came forward, and the knife was recovered," Joyce wrote.
Hankins was additionally charged with domestic aggravated battery because the victim, Terrance Lawson, is his cousin.
Additional arrests are expected in this case, Joyce said.
